Councillor Britcliffe
I have been asked to reply to your FOI enquiry about claims made and allowances paid to (County Councillor) Graham Jones since May of this year until 31 October.
I can confirm that Councillor Jones received £844.92 basic pay in May and £844.92 basic pay in June plus £14.00 expenses for Public Transport. He elected to forgo his County Council allowances upon his election as a Member of Parliament and has not received any payments since June.
I have made Councillor Jones aware of your enquiry and my response. This is in accordance with the normal FOI process and Section 14 of the County Council's protocol on County Councillor/Officer Relations.
Chris

As of the 5th November due to various costs assoaciated with County, I have asked to receive allowances.
The Labour Group takes a proportion for their leaflets and press releases, then they want to deduct insurance and libel cover as County Councillor which has to paid to the ALC. The automated car parking charges are deducted but without an allowance a manual invoice has to be drawn up each time (rather than automated) and bureaucracy involved is wasteful to say the least. There is correspondence, my newsletter, stamps etc.. ,
Most of all it has become impossible to pay my pension crontributions without taking the allowance. I have exhausted every avenue to pay my pension but not take further allowances and LCC won't allow me to pay contributory pension payments.
I do not want any personal reward for representing the area. Therefore the simple answer is to take the allowance to cover these costs and give the remainder to good causes.
