Unemployment rising in Hyndburn

The Governments policies are hurting but not working.
The House of Commons Library has provided the latest constituency unemployment figures for January 2012 which were published today at 9.30am by the Office for National Statistics.

The number of claimants is 255 higher than in January 2011 and 134 higher than in December 2011. These data are not seasonally adjusted. Thats 389 families where someone in just two months has been unable to find work. This does not include those who lost their jobs and found other work or off the register because of retraining or otherwise.

George Osborne's policies are hurting but they are clearly not working. The Government is cutting too far and too fast and businesses are looking to contract. David Cameron is out of touch. Driving along the country lanes -  the Cabinet habit, they fail to see the consequences of their policies in areas that do not share their wealth.

The number of unemployed claimants in Hyndburn constituency in January 2012 was 2,333. This represents a rate of 5.5% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 286th highest of the 650 UK constituencies.
