I’m deeply worried about the impact that cuts which go too far too fast are having on services like health, policing and social care in Hyndburn. The cuts are deeply unfair to ordinary people when those at the very top are getting a tax cut.
Despite David Cameron’s promises, we’ve lost 3500 nurses and 5,000 police officers since his Government came to power.
In these tough times when there is less money around, priorities matter more than ever. Our economy is headed in the wrong direction. Prices are going up faster than wages and too often families are being ripped off. Labour’s priority is real change to help families make ends meet. If we were in government we would be taking practical steps to help people who are feeling squeezed.
This Government has got its priorities wrong. The tax raid on pensioners, cuts to Working Tax Credits, and cuts to frontline services which go too far, too fast, at the same time as giving millionaires a tax cut, show that David Cameron is out of touch and standing up from the wrong people.
Britain needs real change now more than ever. Labour would make tough decisions about spending, but we would see cuts made fairly and build an economy that works for all working, people, not just a few at the top.
