Swimming Clubs

The Leisure Trust are having to make the toughest of decisions just to keep going yet this threatens the viability of local swimming clubs, and the building of the new pool at the Academy has only compounded the problem. It seems a case of there simply not being enough money to go around.

The Leisure Trust have been asked to resolve this issue with the historic swimming clubs and there needs to be a discussion about how these issues can be resolved. Volunteers and third sector organisations are the lifeblood of the community.

I never agreed with the privatisation of leisure services and the creation of the private Leisure Trust by the previous Tory council, and feel Council facilities should be run by the Council. Decisions on such facilties should be democratically accountable. It was trendy back then to go down these undemocratic routes and as a result, decisions have been made less accountable.
