Roll up for the fun of the Victorian Fair & raise funds for local children & young people in need

Roll up, roll up for the fun of the Victorian Fair.

A traditional fairground, complete with a fortune teller, Punch and Judy, peep show, donkey rides and even a circus ring, will transport families to Victorian times at Oswaldtwistle Mills this summer to raise funds for local children and young people in need.

The retail and leisure development is sponsoring a vintage themed family fun day taking place on Father's Day. It will be based on an annual event called Pound Day which began over 120 years ago at Blackburn Orphanage, now known as Child Action Northwest.

Pound Day was revived last summer on the grounds of the charity's headquarters in Wilpshire thanks to grant support and stewardship from members of the East Lancashire Masonic Charity. Other attractions this year include a Victorian photography studio, a life-sized 'Pin the Tail on Ponto the orphanage donkey', a helter skelter, waltzer style rides, ice cream parlour and magicians Bunco booth.

The tradition originated in June 1892 when the public were asked for donations of a pound, or for those that could not afford it, a pound weight of sugar, flour or any other useful item that the Orphanage could use.

Fundraising Manager, Harriet Roberts explained, 'We're delighted to be taking Pound Day on tour thanks to the generous sponsorship from Oswaldtwistle Mills and on-going support from the ELMC which has allowed as to plan an event on a much larger scale.'

Boyd Hargreaves, Managing Director for Oswaldtwistle Mills said, ' Sunday 16th June is Father's Day and we hope that it will be a unique and memorable way for families to spend time together in aid of good cause.'
