Tory FOBT barnacles still on Tory boat and the SNP in bed with bookmaker donor

As the last Parliament closed, FOBTs remained one of the “barnacles” on the Tory boat that they failed to remove in advance of the general election. In the final two weeks before recess Sajid Javid and his junior minister Helen Grant sneaked through a statutory instrument introducing a £50 staking threshold on FOBTs, which they claimed would help players to stay in control and “make better informed decisions about their gambling”. This was despite conflicting evidence on the benefits of this measure and a failure by DCMS to quantify, as part of its impact assessment, what the impact on player behaviour might be.

Cancer Research UK - Early Diagnosis saves lives

Dear Mr Jones,

Did you know that around a quarter of people are diagnosed with cancer through an emergency route?

In your constituency 28.1% of people are diagnosed with cancer through an emergency route each year (compared to the national average of 23.7%). Often their cancer will have reached an advanced stage and curative treatment may no longer be possible.

My piece on Dave Forshaw who died in April this year.

Last month I did a piece on the passing of Dave Forshaw but I had some notes that Dave gave to me when I last saw him and I thought I would update the eulogy I wrote.

I think we're hoping to do something similar for all the people I've given so much to Labour Party in some commemorative format.

I'll be doing one on Pam Barton soon following the speech I gave at St James's Church at her funeral. He is the updated one on Dave Forshaw

16,200 children affected by freezes to child benefit and child tax credit across Hyndburn

Dear Graham,

The End Child Poverty coalition exists to hold the Government, and all main political parties, to account in relation to their commitment to eradicate child poverty by 2020. With just five years to go until this deadline, it is now more important than ever for the new Government to set out clear policies through which to achieve this goal.

Thank you

Dear Graham,

This is not the email I wanted to be writing to you today. I am profoundly sorry for the defeat we suffered, and more grateful than I can express for the support that you have shown me, and our party, throughout this campaign.

I take full responsibility for the result of the election, and that's why it's absolutely right that I step down as Labour's leader today.

Unemployment by Constituency - May 2015- JSA and Universal Credit claimant data

Unemployment in Hyndburn continues to rise as the north-south gap widens. In the last quarter unemployment rose by over 100 and had risen again. These figures are worrying given the low and falling growth we have seen and the problems the constituency faces.
