Fwd: Tackle the hearing loss challenge at Labour party conference

Dear Graham Jones MP

10755 older people in Hyndburn have a hearing loss. 3.8 million older people in England have unmet hearing needs - this is a major public health challenge

Unsupported hearing loss is associated with dementia, depression, social isolation and early withdrawal from work.

An ageing population means that hearing needs are increasing rapidly. The good news is that in 2015 the Department of Health and NHS England published its Action Plan on Hearing Loss to raise awareness about this major public health challenge and how we can design future care to meet that challenge.

In March Monitor, the NHS regulator, published its report on choice in adult hearing care.

- 7 out of 10 people with hearing loss want a choice of provider - however only 1 in 10 is offered one

- the NHS can do more for less – NHS commissioners have been able to deliver higher standards of hearing care for 20-25% less per patient.

This year we will be at Labour party conference on 27-30 September. Visit us on Stand 16 to discuss and see for yourself how this will work in Hyndburn. If you would like to learn more, I can also arrange a 1:1 for you at the conference with our Director of Policy.

Yours sincerely
