A56 Rising Bridge Roundabout Improvement Scheme

As MP I have with others have campaigned for an upgrade to the A56 roundabout at Rising Bridge. I received this helpful news from Friends of Acre Village.

Hi all, Highways England have just emailed me this update below regrading the upcoming improvement works in Acre. Whilst residents in Rising Bridge, Sherfin, Stonefold and Acre are all really exited about these works, anyone using the roundabout is going to have to put up with a bit of discomfort whilst the improvement works are carried out.

Knowing exactly what is happening might help as you can know to expect some delays and plan for it. It will all be worth it though, the roundabout is going to look great and be much safer for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders!

I have also attached the newsletter and notice poster that Highways England help our group prepare to inform people of the upcoming works. please feel free to print and display/distribute.

Hope it helps.

We are shortly due to start improvement works on the A56 Rising Bridge Roundabout. This will include installation of traffic signals, controlled pedestrian crossing facilities, installation of lighting columns in the area and improvements to the cycle route.

Works will take place in a number of phases. This will be carried out between the hours of 22:00 and 05:00, 7 days a week. We anticipate for the works to commence on or shortly after 29 February 2016 and will take approximately 4 months to complete.

Subject to the type of work being undertaken, the works will either require overnight road closures or lane closures and a 50mph speed throughout the 4 month duration.

Please note that all diversion routes will be signposted and for further information on future road closures, please go to

Please note the dates are indicative and may change subject to weather.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause you. If you wish to discuss this project further or have any questions, please contact the 24hr Highways England Customer Care team by phone on 0300 123 5000 or email
